Popular use cases

What people translate Israeli documents for, with the document list for each.

How we handle Hebrew documents

Country-wide rules every translation follows, before the document's own rules.

Hebrew-calendar dates

Translate as day, month, year in the Hebrew calendar and add the Gregorian date in brackets. Never convert silently.

י״ד באדר תשפ״ו → 14 Adar 5786 [3 March 2026]
Numeric dates

Keep digits exactly as written (DD/MM/YYYY). For US readers, state the date format once in the translator note.

05/03/2026 stays 05/03/2026 (note: day/month/year)
Names

Use passport spelling when known. Otherwise transliterate with one consistent scheme and keep it identical across all of a family's documents.

כהן → Cohen (as in passport), never Kohen on one page and Cohen on another
ID numbers

Keep the 9-digit Israeli ID number with its check digit and leading zeros. Never reformat, mask or shorten.

ת.ז. 012345678 → ID No. 012345678
Currency

Keep NIS and the amount exactly as written. No conversion, no rounding.

1,250.00 ש״ח → NIS 1,250.00
Abbreviations

Expand common Hebrew abbreviations to their English equivalent.

ת.ז. → ID No.; ח.פ. → Company No.; בע״מ → Ltd.; ש״ח → NIS; רח׳ → St.; ת.ד. → P.O. Box
Layout

Hebrew reads right to left. Mirror the layout to left to right while keeping each block in place. Re-check table columns after mirroring.

Debit/credit columns in a bank statement must stay under the right headings
Stamps and signatures

Keep stamps and signatures in position. Put legible stamp text in brackets; mark the rest.

[Stamp: Israel Tax Authority, Tel Aviv 3] / [illegible stamp] / [signature]
Institution names

Use the institution's own official English name, with the Hebrew name transliterated on first use.

ביטוח לאומי → National Insurance Institute of Israel (Bituach Leumi)
Addresses

Transliterate street and city names; do not translate their meaning. Translate the street-type word only.

רחוב הרצל 10, ראשון לציון → 10 Herzl St., Rishon LeZion
Israeli-only concepts

Transliterate and add a short bracketed explanation on first use.

ארנונה → Arnona [municipal property tax]; קרן השתלמות → Keren Hishtalmut [tax-advantaged savings fund]
Handwriting

Translate handwritten additions and mark them.

[handwritten: approved 12/03/2026]
Completeness

Translate everything; add nothing, omit nothing, summarize nothing. Leave empty fields empty.

A blank 'Previous name' field stays blank
Gender

Hebrew forms are gendered. Translate neutrally unless the document states the person's sex.

המבקש/ת → The applicant
Translator note

End with a short note: source language, date format, transliteration scheme and any bracketed explanations used.

Translated from Hebrew. Dates DD/MM/YYYY. Names per passport.
